Vegas Visit part 2

Filed Under summer | 31 comments

I am wondering how many post I can get out of my Vegas trip?

It’s been some time since I have taken a real vacation. (you know the REAL kind — where you plan and scrimp and save and anticipate the very hour you GET OUT OF DODGE.)

Truth be told, I did none of the above about my Vegas adventure, but on a whim grabbed a buddy and set out for Vegas!

Visiting the Bellagio was tops on my list.

The glass artist Dale Chihuly said:

“Steve Wynn started talking to me about the ceiling at the Bellagio long before construction even began. He wanted me to make a “spectacular” piece in the lobby of the hotel that would rival the aquarium at the Mirage, and generate more interest. Back in Seattle, we built the entire seventy-by-thirty-foot ceiling, full-scale, at my studio. The commission, as contracted, called for a whole new armature type and about a thousand new “flowers.” Steve visited several times, loved it, and wanted even more glass. Finally FIORI DI COMO was installed with over two thousand hand-blown glass elements.”

A bit closer…

Closer still…

People watching is one of my favorite past times and since I returned home I’ve been kicking myself for not taking photos of Bellagio visitors as they emerged  from the revolving doors–their heads immediately popped up as they stared at the ART FULL ceiling. “Wow!!” was  often the response. (next visit I will remember to do this)

(Some one remind me of this some day 🙂

I read a post some time back where the blogger felt that a summer vacation was her opportunity to reboot her life. Functions and features were still the same, but life had just become a bit sluggish, so like our computer systems we just need a reboot or reset.

My simple goal for my get away was to have maximum fun in the short period of time. (I’m a firm believer one can stay too long in Vegas.)

Especially if your pocket is EMPTY.

Goal accomplished! Thanks for joining with me on my revisit to the Bellagio’s lobby.

Here’s just a tease and glimpse of the atrium– I can probably pull a couple of posts out of that gorgeous place. 🙂

There’s a saying that says, “you could cut the energy with a knife.” Well, it was true!   Visitor’s were all smiles, as we wandered in awe.  I ran into  life long friend who greeted me with a huge hug.  She made my day, my month and maybe my year with her beautiful smile and greeting.

Be sure and visit Beverly with Pink Saturday and all the gals there.

Also, a new meme I am joining is Romantic Home where its Show and Tell day!

  5. Wow … what BEAUTY you’ve found to share while I’ve been preparing for and traveling to New Mexico & back the last few weeks!  I’ve never seen the Belagio but am thinking it might be worth checking out in person one day after viewing your last two posts.  The ZOO VISIT post is magnificent as well!  I especially LOVE the giraffes … would you mind if I ‘captured & saved’ the close up for my screen saver?
I’ve shared a variety of beautiful & varied sky views at Small Reflections and at Sacred Ruminations this week.
    Hugs and blessings,

What a beautiful sight it must have been to see it in person – yep I would have been one of those completely entranced by the sight above – oh my, all glass flowers. That just amazes me the creativity and artistry that is in a persons soul. I doubt I will ever get to Vegas – so I thank you for sharing those photos.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It’s always fun to have a new commenter. Your blog is great. I have seen that Chihuly piece and it is magnificant! You commented on the pillows I showed on my blog. I should have made it more obvious that I’d embedded a link to the etsy seller that made these beauties! I felt guilty that you thought they were “mine”. I wish! Nice to meet you!

  10. So beautiful. I used to live in Vegas and I was always so inspired by the Casino design. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Claudia, I have been to the Bellagio and the glass flowers were gorgeous.  My lifelong friend was a  poker dealer there.  She gave me a tour of the hotel.  I loved it too.  Lucky you to be there and enjoy the beauty.  Your photos are awesome.
    Have a wonderful weekend.
    Hugs, Jeanne

Hi Claudia… I am enchanted by the vivid colors of the atrium… that is amazing and pure magic!

  16. Jacqueline says:

Oh, the Bellagio is just amazing and the Chihuly chandelier is out of this world.  Did you get to see the chocolate fountain behind glass where the chocolate pours from one glass petal to another from floor to ceiling in different shades of chocolate?  I want one of those.

So nice to meet you on Pink Saturday.  I noticed your button is La Caille one of our favorite restaurants.  My daughter had her bridals taken there and the flowers were just exquisit at that time of year.  So gorgeous.

  17. jeanne says:

Hi Claudia, I featured your blog on my post today.  Happy Pink Saturday.  I just showed your photos to my sister-in-law and she LOVES the flowers.  Did you know this Artisan was on HGTV and he put flowers like that in his pool? Beautiful.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  18. racheld says:

I knew, just from the glimpse on Jeanne’s Backyard Neighbor, that this HAD to be a Chihuly!

There’s a magnificent work of his at the Children’s Museum here, rising up through two stories, with a circular ramp/staircase encircling it, so you can look at every element, with the sun streaming in through the glass ceiling.     Those are great lengthy flowers like fire-lilies and things with long petals reaching up-up, whereas yours are the quietly beautiful soft roundnesses of morning-glories and other cupped flowers like umbrellas over your head.      I cannot imagine.   I just cannot fathom the work and the intricate maneuvering it takes to put something like that together.  He’s a genius.

    I really enjoyed this!!

Oh my what a beautiful share you have today. I can’t have
imagined a more gorgeous place to visit. I would be there day
and night taking in all of the beauty that is there to behold.
The colors so bold and beautiful, blending from one to another.
My gosh is it ever breathtakingly beautiful.

of flowers? That is just so gorgeous, one could never imagine, I
think it definitely must be seen.

What a breathtaking exhibit. The “Fiori di Como” is spectacular and remind me of  jellyfish. You are a tease with the overall glimpse of the atrium. What a magical garden they’ve created. I look forward to your continuing posts.

Wow, what an adventure.  I think I would have stayed staring at the ceiling all day.  Vegas is an adult Disneyland.  I went there many years ago.  Too long ago, but I loved all the excitement.  By the way Claudia I love this music.
