Smelling Lilacs

Filed Under spring | 13 comments

Believing that what we “put out there”  comes back to us— I am not complaining about the weather anymore. (ok– how about  NOT as much?  Certainly that has to be an improvement.)  Despite how much I complain, Mother Nature has still managed to bring the glorious spring flowers, and to her I am very thank full as I love LOVE lovvve the smell of Lilacs!!

This photo is fast becoming one of my favorites– with the exception of my signature it is SOOC  (straight out of the camera) I took this with an 85 mm  (not one I typically use) and I am liking the grainy look this came with.

The details of the Lilac up close is amazing isn’t it?  Baby flowers….yum!

These beauties all came from a dear friend of mine who has such a fun yard.

Do smelling Lilacs take you back in time?

I don’t recall having bushes around our home when we were small but I love them so much— I recall breaking off some branches and walking home with them from school.  Ummmm.  What is it about smells that can make us actual time travelers?

Check out this nice video — I am always sad at how fast “woody” flowers fade — this will give you some tips on how to keep them around a bit longer.

Hope you are enjoying the beauty around you.

Hugs!

On Friday I will be joining Beverly at Pink Saturday — check her out.

Lovely, lovely photos, Claudia! And you’re so right, woody flowers fade too quickly. My lilac is already done … it seemed like just yesterday that it started blooming …

The shots of the lilacs are lovely, Claudia. I have always loved this flower. So sweet and fresh….
Growing up, we had several bushes in our side yard and I can smell them even now…. It is funny how certain smells can trigger memories, isn’t it? *grin* We just had our front yard re-done a week ago and I included several lilacs in the front entry area. The first night they were in, the smell was just intoxicating! They are a different variety than the one I grew up with, but they are just so pretty. Thanks for including the tip for making those woody cuttings last longer. 🙂

  3. Claudia,

I saw your post and almost fell off my chair. We may be hundreds of miles apart but we are always in sync. I posted about the peonies and have photographs and planned on posting about MY other favorite, lilacs! I only wish they both bloomed from spring through fall. Your photographs cannot be matched.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

Hi Claudia! Your photos are gorgeous! Yes, I adore the smell of lilacs too! In fact I have a lilac scented candle I’ve been enjoying! I have 3 lilac bushes in my yard and picked each and every bloom to enjoy in the house! They are now empty until next year…sigh! But my roses will all be blooming soon…hurrah!
    Best Wishes and Blessings,
    Amanda

  10. Happy Pink Saturday Claudia Sweetie…
What a gorgeous share today. I love these photos and lilacs are some of my most favorite memories. I can remember having the window open, and the Oklahoma breeze blowing that wonderful scent through our home. I planted it right outside our bedroom window. I loved the scents, and it was so dreamy to rest by.

I didn’t know the hints about preserving the blooms and the scent though. You always find the most helpful and interesting facts to read. I thank you for that sweet friend.

As always I am so tickled to have paid a visit to see you. I love dropping by and seeing what you are up to. We will talk soon. Think of me Monday about 10am that is when my desk audit interview begins. I wish I could say I wasn’t nervous, but I SO AM.

Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Claudia, what lovely lilacs…beautiful post and I do wish they would last longer. Around here there are several different kinds so it seems like when one is complete, another variety begins to bloom. Happy Sunday, my friend.

    Hugs….

  13. I do believe all of the ideas you’ve presentted in your post.

They are veryy convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very brief for starters.
May yyou plwase lengthen them a little from subsequent time?
    Thanks for the post.
