For FOREVER I have wanted to photograph a Humming Bird.

Try as I might, they always proved illusive  UNTIL last evening.

I spotted one out of the corner of my eye and because it was farther away than I wanted,¬† I hurriedly changed to my telephoto lens — even then it must have heard me trying to sneak up on it, or maybe it heard me GASP at the thrill, but this was the only shot I got off successfully.

Humming Birds amaze me.

This summer has been HOT but especially windy.

Several gardeners have been heart sick at the toll the wind has taken on their summer blooms.

However, visiting one of my favorite local gardens, they have managed to keep much of the color and splendor.

Tucked inside a grove of Evergreens, this field of Hollyhocks and Sunflowers took my breath away.

I hope your summer days are taking your breath away.

    Oh how wonderful!….
We once had a hummingbird nest just outside the back door. I never crossed my mind to take any pictures. I was just so stunned that she would feel safe enough to nest so near the house. We left the nest there for the next year, but she never returned. It was just that one time, but it was quite exciting for all to watch, wait for her 2 eggs to hatch and watch the babies and mother activity.

    Have a pinkishly beautiful weekend.

Those gardens look like the idealistic cottage gardens here in England. So pretty.

  16. Dotti says:

Wow, Claudia! Shooting a hummingbird is on my bucket list, too, but I haven’t gotten one yet. This is fabulous! Congratulations!!

  17. Claudia,

Your photographs take my breath away! Yet another thing we have in common. I adore hummingbirds (and dragonflies and butterflies and big fat fuzzy slow moving bumble bees and lady bugs…) I have a few photographs of our tiny residents but YOUR photograph is amazing. It looks like something out of a nature or gardening magazine. What beautiful hunting grounds you have to go ‘shooting’!

    Your Friend,

  18. Deanna says:

You are lucky to have a wonderful garden like that to take pictures of. Great shot of the humming bird! Nancy
