Summer was/ is the time for songs!
Growing up I was glued to my transistor radio – I could’ve put my parents in the poor house buying batteries I suppose. Then came purchasing my own albums, then my own stereo, Oh! remember 8 track tapes? (my cassettes were mainly eaten up by the player– brother, the producers of those sure saw us kids coming on that one didn’t they?) Reflecting back I came up with some of my all time favorites- Just for the Summer!
Lovin Spoonfuls– Summer in the City– “Hot town, summer in the city/Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty…”
Mungo Jerry – In the Summertime — “When the weather’s fine, you got women, you got women on your mind”
The Drifters — Under the Board walk — “Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah/On a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be”
The BeachBoys – California Girls –”The West Coast has the sunshine/And the girls all get so tan”
Don Henly — Boys of Summer — “your brown skin shinning in the sun…”
Alice Cooper – Schools Out for Summer — ”We’ve got no class, and we’ve got no principals!/We can’t even think of a word that rhymes!”
I had a particular beef with the Beach boys– They spoke about the East coast girls (hip clothes) and the Southern Girls (southern accents) and the Midwest girls (knew how to make you feel alright) … I felt slighted.
I lived in Montana – so I stole the “Northern girls” (even though I suppose I knew they were referring to Alaskans) I liked the idea of ” the way they kiss, they keep their boy friends warm at night”) Yes, even way back when, I was a dreamer and probably delusional.
Summer has always been FUN… fun … fun– well– till your Daddy takes the T-bird away.

Ahhh the first swimming lessons!

Summer Lovin– I adore everyone of these fantastic people!!
Do you have a favorite song of Summer??? It’s almost the end of August and I think I will be milking this for as long as I can.
Visit Susan at Met Monday and Mary at Little House – such fun ideas and dear ones who are all so creative.

Since January 1st 2010 -- I have been celebrating finding Beauty in our every day lives. Stay in the Day... be in the moment. Don't wait to live your life.
Stop and make a habit to find the Beauty and you will be amazed at how Beautiful your life is. Be thankful and remember:
"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Dyer

LOvely mosaics of lovely people. I remember some of those songs.
Have a nice day
Great mosaics. I love those songs too, and days at the beach with my girl friends and my transistor…brings back wonderful memories. Your family is lovely, looks like you are still enjoying beautiful summers.

Loved your rundown of summer songs, most are my favorites too. Not sure if I could come up with one single favorite, but surely there would have to be a few Eagles song thrown in for good measure
It’s obvious by your smile that you love your family.
1974 – Seals and Crofts ….Summer Breeze!!
That’s the year I graduated H.S. I loved it then and I still love it today.
Great post.
“California Girls.” Bt it’s always been the southern girls. Actually just one southern girl has been plenty for me and, of course, our southern girl daughters. It’s not just the way the talk.
Oh do I have a favorite song…I actually have soooo many. I am a complete freak for the 60′s music. I was never a Beach Boys fan preferring Eric Burdon & the Animals and Grace Slick type of music.
I have a playlist of my music choices on Blip.fm where you are a D J . Others follow your playlist when they enjoy your music choices. All the videos and recordings are there. Very fun but really eats up the time.
Oh yes my favorite would probably be Summertime by Billy Smith. Janis Joplin did a great version of it too.
Wow what song to play in my mind first (you know they’re all going to be stuck there now)…
Great mosaic of your family. Looks like a great bunch!
Ah the memories. Great mosaic.
Your pictures are amazing!
