Welcome to Friday~~Finding  Beauty

A Rose by another name would smell as sweet. (Shakespeare)

Beauty is in OUR hearts– not what others say about us.

I typically don’t like to use this forum to talk about Oprah or who was on her show…

But yesterdays story line fit right in with today’s topic– Friday~~Finding Beauty.

Jessica mom jeans RS

Jessica Simpson has been hounded by the media for years. They have been, to my definition, down right cruel. While she opened herself up to media gossip when she did a reality show I don’t think just because she is a “star” gives them the right to say the things they have said.

Bannedinhollywood stated the following about her:
Notice the mom jeans meant for overweight moms. Notice the two belts pulled tight as to prevent the muffin-top effect. It’s no wonder that this performance was at the 99.9 Kiss Country 24th Annual Chili Cook Off in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Oprah asked her if she minded telling what size she was in that photo.

“Size 6” ——- SIZE 6!!!  and they call her FAT?

Starting in March Jessica will be hosting a show called “The Price of Beauty.”

s-ISABEL-CARO-large

She shared a photo and video of a former Paris Model who was scolded by a photographer for being over weight– (he told her she had to loose 10 pounds before she would work)  which then lead her to be in a fight for her life as she now battles anorexia. Isabelle Caro has posed nude for bill boards asking Parliament to create a law that will not allow models to model if they are too skinny.

We women are particularly hard on ourselves.  I remember my father,(I am sure thinking he was “helping” me) saying that if I lost 10 pounds I would be pretty.  Negative comments about any one’s body NEVER helps or motivates  them and only perpetuates poor self esteem.  My entire life I have battled my weight and thinking poorly of my size– feeling LESS than others who had the better body. I think I was a size 12 back then. I would KILL to be that “over weight” again. What was I thinking?

My body has put up with so much from me. I am working very hard to find myself beautiful just as I am.  As I work on becoming more healthy– for my body’s sake– I will remind myself that my beauty comes from my heart– NOT what the scale says.

When we change the way we look at things– the things we look at change— Wayne Dyer

Oh Claudia…that is a beautiful picture of an amazing rose…GREAT SHOT!  The world and it’s idea of beautiful is often very sad….so many young girls hurting themselves to fit into some little box they decide is perfection.   Thank you for hosting this…

  2. Sherry says:

    Hi Sweetie….
Oh my gosh I love this beauty post. First of all I so love the rose bud. It just seems to glow. Secondly, So true and look what society is doing to our young girls thinking they have to be so thin. It has lead to an epidemic of anorexia. So scary.

A giveaway, oh boy. Well I am liked up to Finding Beauty, and yes I am a follower, for a long time now. And yes, I am leaving a comment sweetie. I have posted about your Friday Finding Beauty button on my blog, does that count as recommending someone? You can’t blame a girl for trying. Please enter me though. I would so love to win.

Country hugs sweetie and so much love…Sherry

Whoa! Size 6 is fat! Hmmm…
How sad is that. I’m bigger then I want to be but I’m not going to let that rob me of my joy.
Love the photo of that rose Claudia!!
Happy Beauty and weekend to you…

  4. Hi Claudia!

Wonderful post today! I couldn’t agree more. I love the whole ad campaign from Dove products. It is all about different sizes, looks, backgrounds of all women. It shows a great variety. It scares me for for the young women. I so wish we could give them the confidence in who they are instead of what others think they should look like. I have a 2 year old princess and I will do EVERYTHING I can to make that happen for her.

And I would LOVE to be entered into your giveaway!!

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hugs,
    Diann 🙂

  5. And count me in again for the giveaway, I am a follower!

  6. DeniseMarie says:

I use to get how pretty I’d be if I fixed my teeth because I was raised by a single mom.  And I was a 10 beating myself up and now clamour to stay at 12 to feel acceptable.  Beauty is as beauty does and it is only skin deep.  You are a person of beauty and I’ m so thankful for your meme.

  7. What a gorgeous rose and marvelous post about a significant issue … great way to raise awareness.  I recorded Oprah’s show yesterday but haven’t had time to watch yet.  I’ve entered my link for Small Reflections already and plan to enter another for Sacred Ruminations (as happily retired gal) when I finish with this comment.  I’ve ‘followed’ your blog with Google Reader for quite some time now after finding you initially … perhaps through Mosaic Monday.  I love your Finding Beauty idea and have participated for several weeks now.  Happy One Year Blogoversary … here’s to MANY more 😉
    Hugs and blessings,

  8. Karen Cox says:

Happy Blogiversary!  I bet you have met so many wonderful people this year.  It’s funny how our kindred spirits are all in the neighborhoods of The Land of Blog.  I certainly have enjoyed getting to know you Claudia and enjoying your magnificent photography.
I love the topic of today’s post, because it reminds us all too well, that the meaning of beauty is not just the outside.  Our young girls have a much harder role model to compete with than I certainly had when I was young.
Happy Finding Beauty Friday, and Happy Anniversary.
    Karen

  9. Sheila says:

    Happy Blogversary, Claudia!

This is s very important topic, and I’m glad you’ve addressed it here.  I think people should be far less concerned about how other people “look” and put more emphasis on how they themselves “behave.”  Looks are SO unimportant in the big scheme of things.  I hate how movie stars are demonized for gaining weight, and it usually happens from people who are far less attractive.  Go figure!

To me, it’s the shallowest form of behavior to be consumed with looks.  It truly is what’s on the inside of a person that counts.  My grandmother used to preach, “Pretty is as pretty does,” and she was SO right!

    XO,

    Sheila 🙂

  10. I have been a follower from way back. I love the rose and  the story that followed. How very sad that people can be so mean and thoughtless. People need to look at inner beauty, that’s where it really counts.

  11. Stephanie says:

I have been a follower for the longest time. I am one of those that don’t blog but read several.

Your Friday Finding Beauty has been very interesting and inspiring. Please count me in- I have been a follower for a long time too.

Just one point; I think your beauty has always shined through. You are a beautiful woman outside for certain, but your heart is as big as they come!
Thank you Claudia for reminding us.

  12. Porch Days says:

Congratulations on one year. That means a lot of your beautiful photos! Thanks for hosting the Friday -Finding Beauty. You are doing a very  generous Giveaway!
I agree with your comments about weight. The obsession to be ultra-thin has gone way too far.

  13. Nancy says:

Very well said, Claudia.  Lord knows I battle my weight and am losing the fight!  Wish I had seen the interview on Oprah since I keep hearing everyone talking about it.
It’s taken me forever to get back here to read all of your post – what a week it’s been.  I really do enjoy FFB – I’m finding it really calming.  Thanks for hosting.  Congrats on your blog anniversary!  xoxo Nancy

  14. Carol says:

What an eye-opening post on the price some are willing to pay for “beauty.”  Thanks for sharing.  And congratulations on your anniversary!
