A Gift to the Neighborhood

Filed Under christmas | 41 comments

The Season has changed from Fall to winter … so of course my sister and bil brought out their creativity and talent once again!

My feeling on Christmas lights is one simply of a gift to your community and your neighbors . While a family can be all cozy and warm inside your home there is not really a way to enjoy them yourself unless you are driving home from your 100th trip the grocery (last minute run for bake goodies).

But, you do have the warm wonderful feeling when you see cars slow and look and linger and you might see some cute smiles.

Beebs and Popz, on the other hand really do enjoy the process.  I personally think they need a Crafting intervention, but that’s for another day and topic!

Here’s where I stand in amazement…

All this grandeur and beauty is THEIR creation!  None of it is your typical and normal — IN the Box– from Wal Mart kinda stuff.

They spend hours thinking and smiling — “what if??”

Each year starts with an idea and they embellish.

Not only is the yard stunning during the dark… but the DAY is terrific too!

One evening, I was visiting.  Of course I always bring my best friend (my camera) and we were out walking around talking.  Slowly up drove a van.

This is pretty typical so not much notice was taken by my sister… but then the doors opened and out popped 4 lovely young teenagers.

Of course they were giggling and smiling and walked up to us and said, ” Is this your house?”

“It is!” my sister replied.

“Well, we have a little something for you.”  with that a young beauty handed her a small bag of Christmas candy and this note.

They giggled some more and waved and said “Thanks!!!” and hopped back into their car.

We looked at one another with tears in our eyes and she said– “that’s why we do this!”

I love to just stop by and sit in their living room looking out the window watching the cars — often times kids will hop out of the car and Moms and Dads will take pictures of their kids in front of the NEWEST addition…

Personally he is ENTIRELY too scary…  but then I don’t do scary cuz I live alone and I don’t like being scared– but AGAIN that’s another topic! (Yes I know I am in deep need of psychiatric care)

The Grinch is new this Christmas and the kids love or hate him.  Not much in between!  Kids on their way home from school will walk up to him slowly and give him a closer look.

Its all so much fun!

This year they entered a Holiday Contest

Winners get to go to Disneyland — Soooo

If you have a moment stop by the Link below and give them a VOTE!!  I would appreciate you beyond hugs and smooches and they… well if they win they might have to stick me in their suitcase and take me too!

To make it EASY — *wink*  they are # 16
The below TIP is right off of the entry page…

Voting Tips: let your friends, family, co-workers or anyone else you know to come and vote for your entry. Have a facebook, twitter or other social networking account? Increase your votes by posting your entry number and a link back to this page. This is not cheating

Happiest of Holidays!  Isn’t such fun!

Also stop by Beverly’s Pink blog — tons of fun stops around Blogland!

She is celebrating Christmas Music and most of you know I feature a little song each week on my top right side bar to go with the music I love.

Christmas music is what tugs at my heart strings.

WOW I LOVE the addition… I always think of Jim Carey… did you know he’s a Canadian? Yup he is.
So I went and voted. What’s interesting is the house right before your sister’s house. Isabelle, my French girlfriend, sent me an electronic card this morning. It had that house on it with funky music going like crazy. I was dancing in my chair lol.
So come see what Randy’s been up to lately. I’m smelling fresh bread in the oven AGAIN!!!!
Hope it’s all coming together for you… Xmas that is ; )

How beautiful and imaginative! Worthy of HGTV!!
I do 14 trees in my home and we had 2 open houses where we had over 30 invited guests. Many said that they wait all year round for our Open House so they can see our home and it is the highlight of their Christmas!. You are right, that is what makes it all worth it!

  16. Ohhhhhhhhhh…how beautiful!!  There aren’t many people around these parts that do anything like this.  When I lived in Milwaukee, WI…there was always Candy Cane Lane – loved it!!

  22. Happy Pink Saturday!
Your sister and brother-in-law did an amazing job on the home!  I cannot wait until the day I own a home and I can decorate for the holidays like this!  We have what is called a “Tacky Lights Tour” here in Richmond, Virginia and I absolutely LOVE taking my 11 year old and 7 year old sons out and about to view all the lights!  We do the same thing – hop out of the car and snap pictures of the kids in front of the houses that we love the most!
Let your sister know I registered and voted for their house!  I hope they win so they can stuff you in their suitcase and take you with LOL!

  23. Jil says:

Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas!

  31. Oh, I so enjoy people who pull all the stops out on house decorating! It’s the thing that gets me in the spirit right off the bat!
Not a huge Grinch fan (or any other Dr. Seuss, for that matter) – but I love the lawn statue display.
It’s all just so darned festive!
… and how unusual to have colors that show in the daytime as well – now, that’s planning!

  32. LisaKay says:

Absolutely beautiful!!  My husband and I love to decorate the yard, although we had to scale down this year due to me no longer working, but we still managed to do a little decorating.  Happy PS!

I’m sure that the joy that comes from knowing they made someone smile is so well worth the effort for your sister and BIL. Their house is fun without being over-done- no wonder people stop or slow down as they drive by. This is great holiday spirit! Thanks for sharing the fun. Merry Christmas, Claudia!!! ♥ Sue

HEY Claudia…………*incase you forgot who I am, I am one of Claudie’s gals for her summer extravaganza get together”…..ok, you no know who I am
I love the decorated house.  I love how classy and festive it looks without being “tacky and outlandish”. (even though I love the Griswalds)
It is the stuff the truly makes people SMILE and adds so much JOY to the Christmas season.  It must be a lot of work for sure.
I have one itty bitty stand of lights across the front of my house……….that only the moose and coyotes see. Oh well, I guess it is for ME.

I will go vote.  and I HOPE you have a glorious wonderful, happy Christmas.

  38. Leslie says:

  39. Nona Mills says:

What a treat!  Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics with us! Love, Susan and Bentley xxoo

  40. Claudia,
I agree, it’s a gift to the community. In the town I lived in prior to moving to the Fairfield House the entire street participated and there were cars lined up for miles waiting to drive by. It looked like Disney World. I believe they had their own generators. I voted for your sister and will encourage others to as well.
    Merry Christmas, my friend.

  41. eileen says:
